Wow

I'm in a bit of a shock, 2 years ago I got my (now) 9 year old nephew a Kindle Fire for xmas and it did good until a few months ago when he got in trouble and lost it for misbehavior. So for some months it's been sitting in my room on a shelf and 4-5 days ago I ran across it and decided to plug it up and charge it to use as a spare to my own since his was a newer model than my early one it was available for more apps and such.

I got it to charge and it turned on and went online just fine but as I used it I noticed some programs didn't work quite right and as I held it I found a swelling had begun in the middle of it. I showed it to my brother an electrician and he suggested seeing if I could find someone local to look at it as it was well out of the 1 year warranty.

Today as I was getting dressed to go to a funeral I looked over at the kindle laying on my desk and it was not just swollen but was busting apart at the seams and upon closer examination I could see the battery pack swollen hugely on one side only & that was what was pushing it open. I ended up getting Amazon customer support to call me and I told him how it looked and that I knew it was out of warranty but before I could ask if a new battery purchase was possible he said based on what I described was wrong, the warranty didn't matter they would replace it for 3 years for that type defect.

The kicker was that they no longer have the early model I owned so they'll have to replace it was a second generation Kindle Fire. Talk about being floored. I was just hoping to be able to replace the battery pack. Now I've already gotten a confirmation email that my new Kindle Fire will be here Wednesday.

What is the weirdest part is I was at a funeral for a friend and was so very down when I got home that now I feel guilty for being happy they're replacing it. Ironic isn't it.

A special thank you to VW39 for watching the kids for my sister and I so we could both attend the funeral. You're an awesome friend and we really do appreciate you and you know we don't trust many folks with the kids. *hugs dear Rat*

Not a fun day

Will be going to the funeral home today for visitation for an old friend and ex-workmate and then out tomorrow for the funeral. He died suddenly 2 nights ago of Cancer, he'd kept it hidden from most of his friends, the doctors had given him until November so he thought he had a bit more time. :(

I worked with Shane for years at the State Police Post and was just a newby dispatcher, barely off probation myself when a new academy class graduated and our post which was working very shorthanded was allowed 6 new troopers.

Almost everyone of the new guys was from the Louisville, KY area so our rural post was a real shock for most of them. 4 of the 6 took to it like a duck to water while the other 2 transferred off when their 1st year was done.

Shane was still riding with his training officer who worked the late shift which was also my shift I was the primary 3rd shift dispatcher so I spent a lot of time alone in that radio room. But one night a group of local boys got drunk and decided to have a bit of fun. They called the post over and over getting me every call and made drunken threats and dared me *as in me being the Ky State Police* to do something about it. Normally I just had one trooper to respond to them but this night I had a Shane and his training officer and another trooper whose twin brother, also a trooper, was riding with him that night so I sent all 4 of them down to the small community, where 5 good old boys where liquored up and feeling brave.

Damn what a good fight was had, no guns, just a good old fashioned slug fest, but the best part was Shane, who was prematurely bald and wore a fancy toupee and one of the drunks, grabbed his hair to pull his head back to punch him in the face, but the hair came off in his hand and he was starring at it in horror in his hand, when Shane came up and knocked him out!

After loading all the boys up to haul to jail, it was about 3AM and as they drive to the lockup Shane tries to put his toupee back on by the light from the traffic signals but doesn't quite get it right. When he made it back to the post and I saw the back of it, it was flapping up and I just flat broke up before finally going over and fixing it down for him. When he realized how folded up it had been, he told me how it happened and we both sat and laughed until we cried. After that if either of us caught the others eye just a few taps on the top of the head got us grinning like fools.

Shane truly loved to laugh and he was a good trooper but his greatest gift was he genuinely liked people especially country folks. He was well known for pulling over next to folks and just getting out and talking about their lives and concerns. Folks remembered that about him so I expect today will be a big crowd coming to say goodbye to our friend. RIP Shane you will not be forgotten.

What a bad week

What a very sad week it's been for the world I know, first Robin Williams dead by his own had after loosing a battle with depression and addiction A truly gifted funny man who could make you laugh even in the most serious of times.

Now a true lady is gone, Lauren Bacall. I grew up watching those old movies with Bogart and Bacall and their love affair in real life was very plain in their movies.

I can only hope they are both at peace now.

I bless them both for the many hours of enjoyment they brought to my life.
